My friend allegedly shot at someone's heart with malice aforethought, but inflicted only a minor wound, leaving the victim unconscious in a building. But a fire in the building due to defective wiring broke out and killed the unconscious victim. My friend may be the cause in fact, as the victim would not have been unconscious but for his act, but couldn't the fire be considered an independent intervening cause which breaks the chain of causation, as it was not a natural, foreseeable, or probable result of his behavior?
