My dad is very upset that I ran away a few days ago, I’m back home. He’s still as angry as he was when I was gone. He says if I don’t break up with my boyfriend he’s going to charge my boyfriend with statutory rape. My boyfriend just turned 18 and I’m 17. My dad has no jurisdiction over me, he lives in New York and I love with my single mother. Can my father actually do that?? Can charge my boyfriend with statutory rape when he didn’t do anything of the sort? My dad just hates his guts.
Statutory rape in Oregon has a defense if the individuals are within 3 years of one another's age. I'm sorry your dad doesn't like your boyfriend, but it's pretty rough to be threatening criminal prosecution against him. For real legal advice, your boyfriend should consult with a local criminal defense lawyer who specializes in these cases.
