Can I work for the State of California DMV with a felony?

I received a felony DUI in 2014 (4th in 10 years), and was placed on house arrest for 1 year (no jail time). I am now trying to get a job with through the State of California at the DMV. I cannot find any information about whether or not the State of California will hire me if I have the felony when they do their background check. The civil service exam is next week. My attorney is going to expunge my charge in December, do I wait until after December of this year (2017) to take the exam and apply for the position or do I take the exam and apply for the job and hope that i clear the background check?

A felony conviction does not preclude you from being employed by the State of California. Once your conviction is expunged, you will not have to disclose your prior conviction unless you are seeking a license for your employment.

Very doubtful the DMV will hire you, specifically because of your DUIs.
