We were together for 5 yes he was having an affair for the last two yrs. We were never married he kicked us out 3. Months ago and the utlities are still in my name and want to turn off whatever is in my name
You have left out a lot of information. Is the house owned by you by yourself or jointly, or do you rent the house? If rented, is the lease in your name?
If you have been "kicked out" of the house for three months, it would seem appropriate for you to take action to protect yourself and avoid having to pay for utilities that you do not benefit from, or be sure a large debt does not accrue against you. You should make some phone calls to see how it can be done. You should give your ex notice that you are taking action to shut off the utilities; often the utility will want him to call to put the bill in his name.
I would certainly defer to Mr. Hirsch, but I don't see how you are obligated to care for this man if you are not married.
It would seem that you should be able to terminate your responsibilities - unless you are under some contractual obligation that is unresolved - say with the landlord.
