I filled an asylum case in Dec 2018. I'm still waiting for my interview to be scheduled. Is it safe for me to travel to US Virgin Islands and Puerto-Rico? Or should I avoid trips to organized territories of the US?
Yes, you can travel there while your asylum application is pending.
The above is intended only as general information, and does not constitute legal advice. You must speak with an attorney to discuss your individual case.
Here's the problem. If there is bad weather and the plane gets diverted to a non-US island ... you will have abandoned your asylum application.
Is it worth the risk?
Florida is nice ... so is California .. assuming that you are seeking sunshine.
NOTE: Hawaii, or even Alaska, could have the same potential problems if the plane is diverted.
