Can I switch attorneys and request my money back from the current one

It's usually not a good idea to compare your situation to others, even if it is a family member. Even the smallest difference in fact pattern can cause issues to one case compared to another. You need to sit down with your attorney and go over everything and review the receipt notices. It is absolutely up to you if you want to change your attorney. If you do decide to reach out to another attorney you should have a copy of your entire file for them to review. An attorney might review the file and decide there is nothing that needs to be done other than to wait for USCIS to schedule an interview, or they might see that the applications were not filed.
The above is only general information, and does not constitute legal advice.
