I won't comment on whether or not you have a claim against the attorney, but the statute of limitations is 3 years. The statute is tolled for minor children and so the SOL for them starts to run at the age of majority, which is 18. I will also change your tag so that you get other responses.
At 16, you WERE a minor. You do not state why you were denied. Without knowing that, it is not possible to state whether there was legal malpractice here or not.
J Charles Ferrari Eng & Nishimura 213.622.2255 The statement above is general in nature and does not constitute legal advice, as not all the facts are known. You should retain an attorney to review all the facts specific to your case in order to receive advise specific to your case. The statement above does not create an attorney/client relationship. Answers on Avvo can only be general ones, as specific answers would require knowledge of all the facts. As such, they may or may not apply to the question.
I saw this post after answering the other one. You were a minor when the paperwork was filed, so it is difficult to see what the attorney's malpractice was.
