I own a small transportation company. We received roughly $5k in EZ Pass violations. Our Registrations were suspended. When I called EZ Pass to pay, they told me that aside from the $5k in tolls that I owe, I also owe $14k in administrative fees. They wanted me to pay $19k for $5k in actual tolls. That's quadruple the actual debt. When I complained and bargained with them, they told me to pay $11,650, which I still thought was too excessive. I'm a pretty fair person, and understand there should be a late fee imposed, but how in the world is it legal for the late fee be quadruple of what the actual debt is?
They WILL press charges and if you wait till they charge you with a crime they will accept nothing short of jail time. Be warned, and use an attorney. More likely to go to jail for running tolls than selling drugs.
