I was charged with a crime and was found not guilty! Now I was treated like a criminal almost a year now with having to report in every month and pay a fee to do so and my rights as a citizen were stripped and I couldn't even attend a family funeral! My health has taken such a beating from all this pain and suffering as I wasn't in good health to begin with! And it has caused me a lot of money I couldn't afford!! Can I sue for compensation for all I have been through?
Not guilty doesn't mean quite that--means that you couldn't be found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Suggest you discus any options for false arrest etc with your attorney as they've obviously done well by you--hope you thanked them.
Can't make an accurate prediction on your chances of a successful civil suit with limited information. Your question should be addressed with your attorney who is most familiar with all the details of your case.
Find an attorney who sues police. There are not that many but they are out there. These cases are difficult to win and you will need good evidence that the police behavior was an extreme departure from the norm or they acted with intentional or reckless indifference to you.
