The check came from Edward Jones. The employer held on to the check dated 4/7/17.
I found out just last week, 8/1/18 after tracking the check down that my employer had the check. They mailed the outdated check with no explanation given. I had to call Edward Jones to send an updated check for the same amount. For the meantime, I lost interest on my account, for 16 months.
I am 71 years old and just started receiving my RMD. This is the reason why I found out that my distribution check was mailed to my employer who’s supposed to rollover that check to their current 401K carrier, which they did not.
You are entitled to the lost interest. You can contact the US Department of Labor's Employee Benefits Security Administration and see if they will assist you in getting the money without filing suit (incurring the expense). If not, contact an employee benefits attorney to pursue your claim.
