I underwent intermittent FMLA leave for a heart condition. After submitting my paperwork, supervisors and other co workers began calling me names and making fun of my heart condition. I have applied to three promotional positions and have not been selected even though they selected someone who was not eligible for the promotion over me.
Not sure what you mean by "making fun of me." For what it's worth, back in my day we realized that getting attention was enjoyable and that people making fun of us was a sign that they liked us. We rarely made fun of the people we did not like because we knew they were looking for more attention.
So we just ignored them. Plus, IMPO ignoring hateful people who call you names is much cheaper than trying to sue them.
Having said all that, regarding your trouble getting promoted: If you feel you have been discriminated against by your supervisors or co-workers at your workplace because of your race, age, gender (including sexual harassment), national origin, religion or marital status, or if you feel you have been retaliated against for speaking out or asserting your legal rights in the workplace, then you should contact the Florida Commission on Human Relations (FCHR) here in Tallahassee. The FCHR's toll free telephone number is (800) 342 8170; or you can call them at (850) 488 7082. If you do call, ask to speak with an Intake Counsellor. You do not need a lawyer.
Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not. What determines Avvo Rating?Experience & background
