I am a 19 year old female college student who has a perfectly clean record. I have never done anything like this but I was in a bad place after my boyfriend cheated on me and I was hanging with a bad crowd. It eventually lead me into getting peer pressured into shoplifting $73 from Walmart and in my right mind I would never even consider doing anything like this. My court date is a month away while my citizenship test is today. I will definitely disclose this to my immigration officer, but will I be denied citizenship? It was a one time mistake and I have learned my lesson.
USCIS will not approve a naturalization application with a pending charge. About the best you can hope for is that they give you a short amount of time to submit documentation showing that the charge was dismissed. If you plead guilty or are found guilty, this could easily lead to a denial based on lack of good moral character.
