A settlement usually clearly closes out a claim. This means all claims are gone except for the settlement money you received. The only exception is some kind of fraud. If your medical situation later gets worse that is something you should have considered when you "settled" your case. If you had an attorney for the settlement you should talk to the attorney. If not talk to an attorney now and have the attorney review the settlement.

Most of the time in RI, once you settle your claim you are precluded from reopening it. However, some settlements now leave medical open in the event there is a need for future treatment. You should check with your lawyer that settled the case for you to find out which type of settlement you reached. He or she would be best equipped to answer your question.
Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.
