A teen began harassing my son through texts, facebook, emails, and he has a twitter account. I opened an account without using my real name to observe the harassers twitter. Is it legal to watch twitter under an anonymous name? He use to have an open account but closed it and I guess accepted my anonymous account into his closed account. Do I have to remove myself or can I continue to observe? He probably suspects the person is me or my son watching him and is enjoying the continued harassment and taunts. I am not interacting in anyway and am not making him think I am anyone in particular. I would like to remain in this now private twitter to keep an eye on him but want to make sure it is O.K.
If you were a private investigator this activity would be inappropriate and prohibited. As a prvate citizen, I am not sure. Suggest you call the local bar association and see if you can locate an attorney who handles on line issues.
