Before that i had an unlawful carry and a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge at 18.
At 20 i was arrested for possession again and its now been a year and 2 months since ive done anything related to smoking or hearing anything back from court regarding this case. Currently still *active*

You wont pass a federal background check if you currently are under indictment or information (have a current felony or misd) also you cannot be an unlawful user of illegal substances. Usually this means you cant have had a drug case within the last year.
If you attempt to purchase a gun, they will run a federal background check to determine if you are eligible to purchase a gun. If flagged, there will be an additional 3 day wait to determine if approved or denied.
If you are out of jail on bond with a pending case you need to check your bond conditions ... because sometimes bond conditions limit your ability to possess a firearm.
I don't know about Dallas, but around here going 14 months on bond without "hearing anything" would be a big fat clue that you missed some important communication and that you probably have an outstanding warrant for missing a court date. You should check with your criminal defense attorney to confirm the case status.
