I am a U.S. Citizen and have petitioned for my husband. I would also like to petition for my step mother. She married my father when I was 10. If I do petition my step mother will that affect my husband in anyway? Is it possible to sponsor both financially for immigration purpose? Should I wait till my husband gets his green card before I petition for her?
You are not precluded from sponsoring both your step-mother and your husband, but you will need to show that you are making enough money to sponsor both of them. The minimum income amount will depend on a variety of factors, including the number of people currently in your household. Sometimes, you can use your own assets or those of the intending immigrant to meet the minimum income requirement. If all else fails, you can also obtain a joint sponsor. I would strongly recommend that you discuss the specifics of your individual case with an experienced immigration attorney.
I agree with my colleague's answer. I would add: You can add your husband as a Household Member -- and thus use his income AND at at the same time shrink the size of your $$$ financial burden of support by 1 person -- when he becomes a permanent resident. (It could be even sooner IF he has legal status, which allows his income to be counted as a Household Member. Not so if he doesn't have legal status.)
I agree with my colleagues.
As long as you have a big income ... you can sponsor all of them ... no need to wait.

Yes you can sponsor your husband and step mother so long as you have enough income pursuant to the poverty guidelines. It will not adversely affect your husband's petition so long as you make enough money to support both of them according to the guidelines.
