Hi I was looking into getting a wolf dog this year and I heard from a breeder they're illegal in San Antonio. So I went to the city website and read the ordinances. They state Wolf Hybrids are prohibited which would mean a wolfxcoyote or a wolfxjackal it would not apply to dogs because in 1993 Dogs (Canis Familiaris) was reclassified as Canis Lupus Familiaris a sub species of gray wolf.
And Hybrid means two separate species which they are not. And in the ordinances it says "Domestic dog shall mean a member of Canis familiaris which is not a hybrid of Canis familiaris and another canine species." And in the CFR Ch.9 has defined a wolfxdog cross as domestic and is Canis Lupus Familiaris. So..this law is very outdated and contradicts itself and has many loop holes. So can I own one here?
Not unless you plan on filing suit against the city to get the ordinance updated or repealed. If you do want to challenge this law then you should speak with a local attorney for guidance. The State Bar of Texas can give you a referral: www.texasbar.com/
If we do not have a signed fee agreement I am not your attorney and this is not legal advice.
This is the second time in the same day you have posted the same question.
