I had a roommate for a few months who left their cat behind while moving out. I don't have an issue with this, I like the cat. Old roommate said they'd pay me for homing the animal until they can come pick it up. It's been months no payment for homing and no mention of when/if they will be picking up their cat. Do I now have legal rights to tell the person "no you can't take the cat?" If they decide to show up to pick up the cat in say, three months?
Send a demand letter by certified mail, setting a "pick up by" date and the sum owed for caring for his animal all this time.
Make sure to document all communications with him regarding the cat. This will allow you to claim abandonment or transfer of ownership.
