I stupidly signed for a bail bond that was taken out for my ex-aunt. She got out and disappeared. The bondsman is trying to tell me that I can face jail time if I don't pay back the bond. Now, I am on a payment plan and I am falling on hard times and am unsure if I can make my payment for the next month. I have in the past tried to open a dialog with the bondsman about it, only to have them tell me the same and I had better pay it. So, can I legally face jail time for not paying it, even though I never committed the crime?
This is a civil contractual matter between you and the bondsman so they can sue you only. This is not a criminal matter no charges can be filed nor you go to jail.
