You gave the dog away. Enforcing a contract w/a return clause would require the clause be in compliance with state law. Even so, unless the dog is not being cared for, what would be the point?

If the shelter already has the dog, I seriously doubt a court would afford you that relief.

You can try, if your agreement complies with Iowa law. Some states do not allow restrictions on what the buyer may do with personal property that they bought, so that part of your agreement may be void.
