I am 14 years old currently living in San Diego California, without a place to stay. I haven't been in school in months & really want to leave to Anchorage Alaska to live with my stable 23 year old sister. If I get emancipated without parental consent, will I have to get a job to support myself or am I able to let the courts know my sister will take care of me financially. Will the courts accept this as okay? Please help me. I'm scared of my fathers drug & gambling addictions that has left me without shelter for too long.
You cannot emancipate unless you are self-supporting (In California). Talk to your sister about becoming your guardian through a guardianship. She should talk to an attroney in Alaska about obtaining a temporary/emergency guardianship. If your parent(s) are that far gone, your sister can ask them to sign a consent form.
