I am a F1 student who is currently working on my OPT using my work permit(EAD card).
Recently while travelling back from India, I was carrying some of my important documents with me. Unfortunately, I had my EAD card and SSN card in the same pouch and I dropped it somewhere in the immigration line.
I have applied for a replacement EAD card online and I am currently waiting to receive(I have got th receipt). Meanwhile I wanted to apply for the SSN replacement card. For that, the SSN website says that I need to present the original EAD card(work permit) which as I mentioned above, I have lost too.
Is there a way I can get the SSN replacement card for my situation?
I don't believe so. Check with your local SSA office.
Mr. Shusterman's (former INS Trial Attorney, 1976-82) response to your question is general in nature, as not all the facts are known to him. You should retain an attorney experienced in immigration law to review all the facts in your case in order to receive advice specific to your case. Mr. Shusterman's statement above does not create an attorney/client relationship.
EAD is the basic place to start from. Get it replaced that do the rest.
