In 2009 I was charged with misdemeanor larceny and having a hard time finding a job and am currently going to school for my BA in Psychology. Will I be able to get any job in the psychology field or have limitations and what will they be? I want to end in Substance Abuse.
You can go to the Virginia State Boards Licensing web site. On this site, they discuss "barrier crimes." If you were convicted of the misdemeanor petit larceny, this is considered a crime of moral turpitude because it involves stealing. Most of the time the state will request you to disclose this information, but they can license or certify you in many health care fields. They can does not mean that they will. I recommend you go on their web pages and do some research. You can also call the contact person and ask them questions.
