It is a change of domicile but I have found domestic violence going on in between my ex and his wife. I need time to get a lawyer. I need the court date adjourned. Is this possible?
You might be able to contact the FOC and request the adjournment, since you requested the hearing. During that time you can try to get copies of police reports of the incident through Freedom of Information Act requests. An experienced attorney will be able to best help you through all of these difficult processes.
Mr. Lambert is licensed to practice law in Michigan. The response herein is not legal advice and does not create an attorney/client relationship. The response is in the form of legal education and is intended to provide general information about the matter within the question. Oftentimes the question does not include significant and important facts and timelines that, if known, could significantly change the reply and make it unsuitable. Mr. Lambert strongly advises the questioner to confer with an attorney in your state in order to ensure proper advice is received.
You might be able to get an adjournment f you call the friend of the court referee. An adjournment is often easier if you have an attorney call to request it.
Hi, I urge you to contact a lawyer in your area at once. You can also contact the court or the friend of the court to request some time to obtain a lawyer. Do not delay. Good luck to you.
