Hello I am doing yard renovations and I hired a contractor to poor the concrete, they got the building permits to do this and an inspector even came and signed off and gave the go ahead. I got a letter in the mail today from the zoning department saying we didn't get a zoning permit. I already called an made an appointment to go in and take care of this as I was not aware we had to go through the zoning department as well. I found out that a neighbor filed the complaint and brought this to their(zoning department) attention is there any way I can find out which neighbor it was that filed the complaint?
There could have been multiple complaints, but it sounds like you got the permits, so put it behind you.
No, it could even have been anonymous

The building department might provide that information, but you would probably have to make a FOIA request. Ultimately, since you are doing the right thing, ie: what is required by the local ordinances, I would suggest that you look forward and complete your project. Not much to be gained by finding out who was the complaining individual.
