My bf and I had an argument over our vehicle, the point is that things did escalate. My bf in the past has been in jail for physically, mentally, and verbally abused me, and every time there is an argument I try to leave the situation to avoid the drama. In this case our argument was escalating and I was afraid for myself so I slapped him to keep him away, he called the cops that instant to have them come over, police officer spoke to both of us and officers decided to arrest me for assault by contact my bf did not file any charges.I tried explaining the whole situation to the officer but didn't hear my side, my bf later explained to the officers that it was just a push since he saw they were arresting me but officer did not care. Can I fight this charge against me since my intentions were to keep him away from hurting me and my reaction to slapping him was self defense?
You absolutely have a right to put on a defense. Hire an attorney to best protect yourself.
Absolutely!!! You have the right to a trial and even trial by jury if you choose that option.
