I worked for west bend school. In Wisconsin And I work night I have a son that goes to that same school that I clean at he was having hard time with his homework so he came to the school to do it he was there after school hours and not helping me just doing homework and my boss found out about it and fired me for having him there to do homework. I also found a note in a file that said she was letting me go3/20/17 and I did not really got let go till the 3/23/17. So it looks like they was just looking for a reason to let me go. Is there anything I can do?
There may be something that you can do, but more information is needed to provide meaningful advice. You should make a request for your employment file under Wis. Stat. s. 103.13(2). (You can review the law using this link: https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/statutes/statutes/103/13.) You should then have a lawyer review the file.
More information is required to know for sure, but generally employers are allowed to institute policies and enforce them. If there was a policy about having kids in the school after hours or something along those lines, you may be out of luck. If you think the reason they terminated you was for something else - and you feel like they were discriminating against you based on your race, gender, religion, etc., then you may have a claim. It sounds like you should be eligible for unemployment, so I suggest you apply for that immediately. If you think you were discriminated against, then you should contact a local plaintiff's employment attorney.
