i just got my drivers license & now i want to purchase a car but my parents don’t have enough to actually buy me my own car so now i wanna know if i’m eligible to purchase a car using my settlement money because i’m 16. The car i wanna purchase is $16,000 & my settlement money is way more that this so i’m just wondering if the court would ever let me purchase a car before i’m 18
You would have to petition the court for permission to access that. Typically, that money is reserved until you are old enough to legally control it as an adult. If you have a need for the car, you may get some cooperation. Otherwise, the court may want you to wait. Because at 16, the car could still be legally controlled by your parents, thus depriving you of the money contrary to law.
