This is an employment law question, so I would recommend posting it there. Employers often ask in their applications whether you have been convicted of a crime in the past and, if so, what crime. You have to be truthful in your response as omitting an answer is a basis for termination in and of itself.
While an employer cannot refuse to hire based upon the simple fact that you committed a crime in the past (and yours is quite distant), an employer can refuse to hire you if the underlying conduct involved in the offense somehow proves that you would not be qualified for the position for which you are applying.
Possibly, because you can be refused a position for which the crime is substantially related to the job and I believe you could be a correctional officer and not handle money/assets, but you need to apply to know for certain. If you are not hired, then contact an employment attorney.
