I pay child support to daughters father in MA. I live in TN. I lost SSI suddenly a few months back. I am scared I won't be able to make just this 1 payment for this month (which I can pay back next month since I found employment). I am wondering if missing this 1 payment when I have always paid on time will bring consequences. My ex is only having me pay to see if they can make me look bad by missing payments. PS: Minor child does not reside with the father even though the court believes she is. She has been living with his sister for 2 years. Any chance I can have it switched to pay her?
If you have an issue making one payment on time, pay it as soon as you can and be sure to address any late fees, etc. If this truly is a one time issue, there's no value to him in trying to make a big deal of it.
If your daughter lives with someone else, you'd have to prove that and work to have a guardianship established and the support re-directed to her. That would prove difficult if the sister will simply deny the issue however.
