My wife is licensed to carry and I didn't know she left it in her car and I went to store and was stopped by police and charged with convicted fellon in possession but I didn't know the gun was in the car and my wife is willing to testify to that
Can you be charged? Yeah, definitely. Pretty much every prohibited person found in a car with a gun denies knowing about it and says it's someone else's. Generally speaking, being in a car with a gun as a convicted felon is enough to get you charged. That does not mean you will be convicted. You may have a defense available to you based on your lack of knowledge of the gun, but I don't practice in TN and can't say for sure.
The important thing here is for you to immediately retain an experienced local criminal defense attorney to represent you. This is a serious charge and is not something you should try to handle on your own. If you can't afford to hire a lawyer, contact your local public defender service ASAP and see if they can assist you. Good luck.
