My condominium in a gated community requires a bar code for entrance to owners' only entrance. Yet the machine is broken so they are not providing bar codes for rented cars. This means we have to go to main gate guard house, wait on line with other visitors and show ID every time we return to our property from running errands, dinner, shopping etc. Is this legal It appears to discriminate against vacation owners who pay the same maintenance as everyone else. Even when they are printing bar codes there are times when the process takes a great deal of time or are not readily available.
You need to take the matter up with the condo unit owners association. The answer will depend on what the bylaws say. Put pressure on the association officers to rectify the problem; if they don't, run against one of them in the next election. Surely there are other owners with this issue; band together to insist that the association officers correct the problem.
