my friend was wondering if he could petition his step son of the age of 18 years of age. he has been supporting his step son for a couple of years now just that the step son has ran into some legal issues and is in process of deportation.
He may if the stepfather is a US citizen and the stepparent relationship started before the stepson was 18. The stepfather will have to show that he married the stepson's mom before the stepson turned 18.

Possibly, if the step-parent relationship was created before the kid was 18 (in other words, if the father married the mom before the kid turned 18). However, it still needs to be figured out if the step-dad can help.
Since the child is in proceedings, they should hire an attorney asap. Tell them to give me a call, you seem to be right next door.
