I was threatened to sign a new lease to cover the landlord's ass, as she put it.. Because if I didn't, she told me that me, my son and our dog and cat would be gone too.. I put it off for nearly a month until she cornered me and i had to sign it. But only out of fear.. My husband and I are NOT seperated and have NEVER filed for divorce
The remaining spouse would still have the benefit of the old lease. The landlord is not really accomplishing much but changing the terms of your tenancy.
