Family business sold 2 years ago new owner and me and brother was running business last 2 years been hard 2 years let people go, slow pay vendors, other issues i decided to look for another job just for a back up but owner found out and fired me. Two weeks later found a new job in same type business and a partner to start new business in different city. I did not sign a non-compete form and threaten to sue me or file injuction for me not to start business. I didn't take anything from business customer lists etc which vendors and customers are public info in tire and wheel market and when fired had no job leads or options wasnt working from currant job to start new one.
I would ask your former employer on what grounds he or she is going to try to prevent you from opening a competing business in a different city. Unless you signed some kind of non-compete agreement or this agreement was part of your contract as an employee of the company, you likely have the right to compete. Again, I would ask for specifics from the former employer for clarification.
