There are ten office employees who all were salaried until Jan 2018 when myself and another lady have been pushed to hourly associates. Maybe. Your place of employment may be too small to be affected by federal discrimination laws, but the state might operate on them. Still, the PR is bad. Start by talking to them about what they did and why. yes, it does look suspicious, but even under federal law if the business has a legitimate, non-discriminatory reason for the change, thy can avoid trouble. Be sure that you two are not the newest hires, etc. that would get changed in tough financial times.
