I missed my court date for a traffic ticket from April of 2010. The original fine was $125.00. The court house sent the fine to collections. The collection agency now wants a RIDICULOUS $863.00 for the fine. My license is suspended because of this unpaid fine. The DMV in Sacramento will NOT reinstate my license until I get an abstract...pay this INSANE fine. Can this collection agency hold my drivers license ransom like this legally?
It isn't the collection agency's fault that you ignored a traffic citation. The collection agency is simply following the law.
Hope this perspective helps!
I suggest that you go back to the courthouse and ask to seek a judge. The judge has the power to reduce the fine. The sooner you act, the better chances you have. In the meantime, do not driver without a license.
You will need to set up some payments, driving with a suspended licenses if caught can result in hefty fines of $1,500 or more.
