I am the Preacher's wife. We are a very small Church. We are non Profit..No board members. No Corporation. My Church wants to build a small Church on a lot I bought . The lot is in my name alone. Can the building be built in the Church's name or do I need to deed this property to the Church before we build? .....Or do I need to just build the Church myself. ...My question is, Can I own the lot and the Church build the building? The Church would own half the cost and I would own the other half. Could we draw up a contract by a Lawyer. If we decided to sell, The Church would get back their money and I would get my money back. Can a contract be written to this effect?
There are several different ways to do what it appears everyone wants to do. The only solution I would advise you NOT to do is to remain as the sole property owner/landlord while the church builds a church on your land. Sell the land to the church. If you do not want to sell your land to the church then keep it. But do not try to mix your business with church business; at least not without a competent lawyer.
