You need to contact your insurance company immediately and notify them that you have been served with a lawsuit. It will hire an attorney to defend you in the case. It's important to act quickly because you must file a response with the court within 30 days or you will be in "default".
Portions of the police report may be helpful to your case but the conclusions of the police officer as to who was at fault are generally inadmissible in a civil case. Ultimately it would be up to jury to decide who was at fault based on all of the evidence. But your insurance company will defend the case and fight or settle the case as it deems appropriate.
Contact yourins co immediately and get them the papers. They will appoint/hire atty to represent you. The police report may not come in to evidence. If the cop didnt witness the crash or qualify as an expert, his opinion is not likely to be admissible.
This is why you pay for ins. Use it.
Turn the papers over to your insurance company, and they will provide a lawyer to defend. If you were injured, you can retain a personal injury lawyer of your own, and go after them for damages.

First, I agree with Mr. Rosenthal in regard to his analysis and legal advisement to you. Time is of the essence, and the insurance companies tend not to move quickly. Follow up with your contact person at your insurance carrier and make sure they refer this to Defense legal counsel and in fact they are going to respond to the complaint in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, this is the nature of the business.
