I am a F-1 student in the US and am wondering what the US tax rate on Australian's with capital gains (from stocks). I know normally it is 30%, but Australia has a tax treaty so I am not sure.
In two cases:
1. Stocks owned in the US
2. Stocks owned in Australia
What would the tax rate be on each of these? Or am I able to pay tax on any of these through the Australian tax department?
This is actually a tax question to be addressed by an accountant or tax attorney.
