My husband and I are both Canadians. I live here under his work visa. He recently applied for a Green Card through his employer. Do I immediately get a permanent Green Card when he receives his or is there another process? Is there a waiting period before mine becomes permanent?
Nothing with UAS immigration is 'immediate'.
But, yes, your I-485 should be submitted at the same time as your husbands and you both should get your cards about the same time ... sometimes there's a few days difference.
They will both be as 'permanent' as the US allows. If you leave the US for more than 6 months on one trip, you lose your ability to naturalize until you return to the US for a certain length of time. If you leave for more than 1 year on one trip, you have abandoned your residence (aka: greencard.)
