My income with husband is $57,520 a yr gross. A family of 5. I have back taxes and have a tax title on my house. I owe 6500.
Any programs? I am paying $600 a month, and it's too much....
You should be able to negotiate a lower amount per month. You can call the IRS or also you can call the taxpayer advocates line [ 617-316-2690]
Is this tax lien for unpaid property taxes or a tax lien from DOR or the IRS for unpaid income taxes? If you can't pay your property tax bill, you can apply to your town for an abatement byu contacting the town or city that issued the tax bill and following their processes to appeal and ask for relief. Based on your income you may not qualify however. If you can't afford the property taxes and don't qualify for an abatement, legally you have no options and when the house is transferred and/or sold, the tax lien will have to be cleared. If the tax lien grows, the town can also foreclose on your house eventually (although they are unlikely to do so).
