I have a custody/divorce case out of Pomona, CA ut I live in Colorado springs, CO. I can't seem to find a lawyer willing to help single moms on a low income. All the agencies either require you come from a physically abusive realtionship (mine is a serious case of mental abuse), or require you to live in CA.
Getting help is difficult. If there are assests in the marriage or if the other party has an attorney, then there is a possibility of you getting funds assigned to pay for an attorney. Are there assets that might be used? Does your spouse have an attorney? If so, how is that attorney being paid?
Call the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law 213-388-7515
or possibly Levitt Quinn Family Law Center 213-482-1800.
You should investigate limited scope representation. It can be tailored, and may be possible on a payment plan.
All of Ms. Straus’ responses are intended as useful information, based solely upon the facts stated in the question, and are not to be relied upon as a full or complete legal opinion. They may not be what you wished to hear, they do not create an attorney-client relationship. Ms. Straus has been licensed to practice law in California for 33 years. Ms. Straus regrets that she does not provide follow up free advice via email. She also regrets that blunt responses may be taken as "rude" by those who wished a different opinion. Good luck.
You can go to the self help center at your local court house to see if they can help you.
