I am an intern for a company which I do not wish to disclose but basically I want to hold an event which involves providing tips on how to manage a business well. However, I only want females to attend because I want to bring women together in a comfortable setting. However, I am afraid this program may be labeled as sexist and want to make sure it is legal. I do not care if people THINK its sexist as long as it is legal.
Being sexist is not a legal issue. Discrimination on the basis of sex is the issue, and focusing groups on gender is not prohibited where there is good cause.
The above is general legal and business analysis. It is not "legal advice" but analysis, and different lawyers may analyse this matter differently, especially if there are additional facts not reflected in the question. I am not your attorney until retained by a written retainer agreement signed by both of us. I am only licensed in California. It is not necessarily discrimination. But before running with this idea, bring it up with your management and explore other options.
