My ex was in a car accident and wracked up a lot of medical debt while we were married, 5 months before the divorce. He is currently in jail and our divorce decree says he is responsible for the bills he accrued, but I am still being hounded by the collection agency even after sending them copies of the decree. Can I stop this? I have the children and the medical was not for me.
If the divorce decree says he is legally responsible for the debt and you are not, and especially because you have provided them a copy of the decree, they should not be bothering you to collect on his debt.
Since this is a more of a debt collection issue than a divorce issue, I'm going to re-classify this question for you.
