We got married in Castries, St. Lucia in March 2013. We have no children. No property. I was an authorized user on his AMEX. Which tanked my credit after he filed Chapter 13 at the beginning of this year. I just graduated nursing school, but still need to take my state boards. I have not worked for a corporate job since December 2018. Originally from Texas, we moved to Colorado in late January 2018 for his job. He's a reservist of the military for 20 years +. He recently received a job offer in Seatle where he has been since Oct. He has agreed to pay the lease on the apartment out until the end of Feb 2020. I want to move back to Texas, but I do not have a job. Nothing has been filed as far as I know.
You really need to schedule a consultation with a domestic relations attorney and retain counsel in order to understand your rights and to protect yourself in separation and divorce.
I agree with the previous counsel. You may be entitled to spousal maintenance and a share of any marital assets but I would need to know more information.
Depending on your respective incomes, you may be entitled to an award of maintenance (alimony). Also a property division if there is any property acquired during the marriage or if his pre-marital property has increased in value. You should consult with a lawyer to discuss these matters further.
