Ticket was issued 9/2011 for $130. Lost it and now I am receiving a letter that it will cost me $506 along with a bench warrant. I have been out of the country (I live in Mexico) and didn't realize this problem. Can the $506 be decreased? Is there a limitation for bench warrants?
You may be able to get the fines reduced if you hire a local attorney. However, your bigger problem is going to be getting the charge dismissed so it's not on your record.
A bogus check is considered a crime of moral turpitude which makes it a deportable offense if you do not have US citizenship.
