I just got a letter that I owe a certain amount of money and that my drivers license is suspended, however, I do not know why that is. I have paid all my tickets in full online the moment I have received them. nothing major, just a couple parking tickets and a obstructing traffic. I have a couple questions about that.
At least in the State of WA., flying to another country has nothing to do your driving privilege. You do not say whether you are charged with the criminal offense of Driving While License Suspended(DWLS),. Obviously, if you are so charged, I would not recommend that you miss any court dates that are scheduled. However, if your current status is simply that you are suspended by CA. DMV, then you can go to the Philippines without jeopardizing yourself further. In any state, the first means of clearing up confusion or error in one's driving record is to go to the local DMV office and get an abstract of your driving record. Bring in your receipts that you paid the tickets. Hopefully, you will locate a DMV employee willing to spend the time to correct the data entry error.
However, you will benefit yourself by contacting a local CA. lawyer who does traffic cases. That attorney will very likely know how to quickly deal with the red tape involved with institutions like CA. DMV. Good luck !!
If its simply a license suspension and no warrant for missing any court date, then you should be fine to travel. But you should handle this ASAP to fix your license. Hopefully you've paid with check or credit card. That would make a paper trail and easily prove that you've made your payments. If you paid with cash, you can try to show you paid but its difficult to prove without a paper trail. If you need your license, like most of us do, I might suggest paying what they ask now to lift any suspension and deal with proving your case and getting a refund after.
You need to get a copy of your DMV record- dmv.ca.gov and see what is holding your license, Get an attorney. You have a misdemeanor with a suspended license.
