I have mailed and received return receipt of delivery to the attorney but have not heard anything or received funds associated with the retainer. How should I follow up on these actions? [UPDATE] Now I have received my letter back in the mail after the post office had said it was delivered. Also since my last post on this matter I have sent another email to the attorney as well as done some research that suggest this attorney may be under discipline by the ATTORNEY GRIEVANCE COM'N OF MARYLAND. I am not receiving anything from the attorney and am bewildered at what I need to do next.
I have been communicating this since August with not word from the attorney as of yet.
Sounds like it is past time for you to have filed a complaint with the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission. When you say you received the certified letter back, are you saying it was never signed for and delivered to the attorney? Although certified letters are useful to prove the recipient got the letter, I hope you also mailed a copy by regular first class mail. Those don't come back unless the address is invalid, and first class mail delivery is more than sufficient means to notify a lawyer.
In any event, here's the link for filing a complaint against the lawyer:
