I was in the middle of a very important career transition when I was charged with misdemeanor petty theft. As a first offense, many would have taken the hit. But as I had career goals in mind, I knew this hit would be devastating. My case, while seemingly uncomplicated, could have been increased to a...ssault and robbery. I was worried that I threw away over 8 years of work for a stupid, poor decision.
I searched on this exact site, looking for salvation, redemption in a way. But with the plethora of lawyers at my finger tips, I had no idea where to turn. So I called 20+ lawyers, and personally spoke to everyone regarding my case. Then I talked to Mr. Joe Dane.
Why did I choose Joe? Simply because I felt that he could put my case first. With such a small crime, I did not know what type of criminal justice lawyers would have the patience to put my case as a priority. I'm sure most criminal justice lawyers place attempted murder charges, larceny, grand theft before any petty theft charge. But the tone, respect, and overall common decency I received from Mr. Joe Dane made me feel like I was one in a million, not one of a million.
From the minute I spoke with Mr. Dane, he became the mentor, lawyer, confidant I needed. His professional manner was refreshing, honesty was necessary, and attitude was realistic. He gave me options and projections of what would be in store for me, and I chose to meet with him. From his experience, he offered several projections. Being a bit neurotic, I appreciated him taking over 2 hrs to discuss at length what my options could be. Not only did he try and calm me down, but he also put things in retrospect.
The entire legal process took 3 months, from charge to dismissal. This period of time, however nail-biting, was met with constant updates, emails detailing what had been discussed with DAs, and re-evaluated projections of what was to come. I never felt alone during this process. Never felt as if I had made the wrong decision.
It has been 3 months, and I am finally in the clear. Mr. Joe Dane was able to get the charges dismissed, allowing me to put this incident behind me. I believe he put his best foot forward by getting me what my best outcome would be, an outcome he speculated should happen. The charges of petty theft were never increased to robbery and assault. I am confident that this is a result of Mr. Joe Dane's influence.
Would I recommend anyone go through legal issues, small or big? No.
Would I recommend anyone get a lawyer when facing legal charges? Perhaps.
Would I recommend you go to Mr. Joe Dane when faced with legal issues? Always, and yes.
I find myself back at AVVO.com following the dismissal of my charges. Looking back, I wondered what makes Mr. Joe Dane such a great criminal lawyer. Aside from the services he provided, I am confident that his staff makes him an even better lawyer. Eddie, a paralegal working for Mr. Joe Dane, was in constant contact with myself and Joe Dane. In the days that Mr. Joe Dane was in court, Eddie would be there to answer any questions I may have. If he was unable to speak with me regarding receiving a weekly update, I could ask Eddie questions in confidence that her responses would be correct. For those who question whether a strong paralegal makes or breaks a law firm, I say "yes" from experience.
I write this review in free will, wanting those looking for answers to find clarity in the many lawyers preaching to find you redemption. This legal system may, at times, have your back, or be stabbing you in the back. Unfortunately, changing the system is not a one man job, so you need a lawyer that knows how to work what is in your favor. I know the feeling of being lost, alone, like you're the bad guy when faced with legal issues.
You're not the bad guy, and you need a lawyer that shares that same sentiment. The guilt of my actions led me to believe that I might deserve the punishment; Luckily Mr. Joe Dane seemed to believe otherwise
